This is a film that’s been high on my watch list for a while.
Directed by Clint Eastwood, it stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon.
Having been only a five year old madam when the 1995 Rugby World was on, I didn’t know anything about what I was about to watch. I was expecting a film with a story line similar to Remember the Titans or Coach Carter where our attention is focused on a team coming together and we watch them endure the trials of people divided only to prove that they can overcome any obstacles that stand in their way. Invictus was much simpler than that but at the same time much more complicated.
This film doesn’t focus on the action of the game or even the bond of the Springbucks team but more the spirit of what they stood for at a time when change was happening.
Both Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon show just how much of acting heavy weights they are. Morgan Freeman brings Nelson Mandela to life and we are given an insight into his thoughts and world. Matt Damon is completely transformed as Francois Pienaar and does the rugby captain justice.
